Shoalhaven Ex-Services Group

Beyond the Green: our Commitment to Sustainability

Shoalhaven Ex-Services Group has championed environmental sustainability through various initiatives. Key efforts include water conservation via the Shoalhaven REMS scheme, a 100kW solar PV system reducing CO2 emissions by 280 tonnes annually, and planting over 500 native trees. The Club also promotes waste reduction with recycling programs, boosting recycling rates by up to 41 per cent. Energy efficiency improvements, including LED lighting and motion sensors, have further reduced consumption. Additionally, the Club supports biodiversity through habitat protection for endangered species and local wildlife. These actions reflect the Club's commitment to sustainability, environmental protection, and community involvement.

South Tamworth Bowling Club

Making Lawn Bowls sustainable and profitable

South Tamworth Bowling Club is committed to sustainability through key initiatives, reducing environmental impact while supporting the community. They have implemented a rainwater reclamation system to irrigate the Tiff Dwarf bowling greens and landscaping, significantly reducing reliance on town water. The 125 solar panels generate 80 per cent of the Club’s energy needs, cutting emissions and operational costs. To further promote sustainability, they have installed electric vehicle charging stations powered by the solar energy. To reduce strain on the air-conditioning network, they utilise evaporative air conditioning where possible, enhancing energy efficiency while maintaining comfort for members and visitors. The commitment extends to waste management, with a can and glass recycling program supporting St Vincent de Paul through donated funds. Additionally, they invest in greenkeeping excellence, preserving best practices, supporting apprentices, and operating a reputable lawn bowls restoration business servicing three regional clubs. In the kitchen, their chefs actively use on-site herb gardens, ensuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients that reduce food miles and promote sustainable cooking practices.

St George Leagues Club

Recycle 4 Research program

St. George Leagues Club supports SSMRF's Recycle4Research initiative, helping fund crucial medical research while promoting sustainability. Between March and December 2024, the Club collected 102,366 bottles, raising $10,236.60 for SSMRF. The Club provides financial support through container deposits, in-kind assistance with infrastructure, and promotes the initiative to patrons. This partnership aligns with the successful Return & Earn program, which has returned over 11.6 billion containers since 2017. The funds support medical research at St George and Sutherland Hospitals, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. The Club demonstrates leadership in both sustainability and community health.

Gosford RSL

Leading the Charge in Environmental Sustainability

Gosford RSL Club is dedicated to sustainability, continuously adopting eco-friendly solutions. Our latest initiative—installing EV charging stations—supports the transition to cleaner transport options. They have installed four EV charging stations, including two 22kW dual-port chargers, accommodating up to four vehicles at once. These fast chargers offer a convenient and reliable solution, encouraging greener travel choices. Located between Gosford RSL and the Galaxy Motel, our charging stations serve members, guests, and visitors. While charging, guests can enjoy dining at The Gardens or explore our entertainment options, making sustainability both accessible and convenient. By providing EV charging facilities, Gosford RSL actively supports carbon reduction and renewable energy use. This initiative reflects our commitment to a cleaner future, demonstrating how clubs can lead in environmental responsibility.

Ramsgate RSL

Feeding Local School Projects

Since launching the 'School Care Project' in 2019, Ramsgate RSL has donated $50,000 to 13 local schools, supporting projects that enhance community engagement and environmental sustainability. Notable initiatives include water-efficient bubblers, edible gardens, waste recycling programs, and bike racks. A community panel, including the Club President and local representatives, shortlists school applications, and members vote on the projects. This initiative fosters community involvement and awareness. As Ramsgate RSL expands to four venues, the project will extend across the shire, continuing to support local schools and their sustainable initiatives, making a lasting impact on the community.
