Cronulla RSL
Surfers Rescue 24/7
With drownings on the rise, Cronulla RSL connected with Surfers Rescue 24/7 and provided a space for 20 local board riders to participate in a board rescue course to learn surfboard rescue techniques that may prove crucial in times of need. Cronulla RSL further donated $5000 (outside of ClubGRANTS) funding to Surfers Rescue 24/7, to provide the opportunity for members of local board riding clubs to participate in the Surfing NSW Trauma training course presented by TacMed Australia. The board riders learnt how to control bleeding in an ocean-based environment and deal with other trauma-related injuries after a shark attack, fin chop or other incidents. Cronulla RSL is also home to a Surfers Rescue 24/7 trauma kit to rapidly deploy in the event of a life-threatening trauma event on the beach, if volunteer and professional lifeguards aren’t on patrol.

Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club
Future Leaders Begin Their Trek
A supporter of the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge for many years, Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club’s yearly contribution of $20,000 enables three future leaders to join the program, providing them with unique skills and a deeper understanding of the diggers' sacrifices. The program involves an arduous 10-day trek across the original Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea, presentations at significant battle sites and reflections - all while carrying a 15kg backpack and enduring daily rainfall in hot and humid conditions. With the pandemic halting the challenge in 2022, Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club decided to choose four students to tackle the rough terrain and walk in the footsteps of the diggers in 2023.

Scholarships to Stop the Brain Drain
Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club has launched a University Scholarship Scheme to aid Wellington's youth in pursuing higher education, particularly considering the challenges of distance from major universities and the financial impact of relocating to a major city. The scheme, which received overwhelming interest, awarded scholarships to 14 deserving students this year, with funding raised from an initial $20,000 allocation to $27,000 due to exceptional applications. With a focus on addressing local shortages in healthcare professionals, the scheme aims to encourage students to return to their community after completing their studies and stop the 'brain drain'. Plans are already underway to expand the scheme into other educational areas such as TAFE and apprenticeships. The Club's dedication to investing in the future of Wellington's youth underscores its commitment to community development and retention of local talent.
