Barooga Sports
Partnering for an Active, Healthy Cobram Barooga
Supporting sport and a healthy active community, as well as enhancing the liveability of the region, is at the core of the purpose of the Barooga Sports Club. No greater example of this is the provision of the Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre (BARC). Built, operated and fully subsidised by the Sporties since 1991, BARC has been a cornerstone of community health and wellbeing for more than 30 years. Since inception, conservatively the Sporties has invested more than $7 million in providing these facilities and services to the community. By attracting more than 50,000 visits every year, this confirms its vital role in enhancing the physical and mental health of the region. The indoor 25 metre heated pool features swimming programs which are utilised by older adults, people who live in isolation or on rural properties, people recovering or living with health issues, families and young children. It is a key place for the promotion of physical activity, socialising and overall health and wellbeing.

Campbelltown Catholic Club, Ingleburn RSL, Wests Group Macarthur
Keeping Hearts Beating in Macarthur
Campbelltown Catholic Club, Wests Group Macarthur and Ingleburn RSL, and Heart of the Nation, are working together to place almost 200 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in the Macarthur area between 2023-2026. It is estimated that within the next three years, almost 10,000 homes in the Macarthur area will have access to an AED within that precious three minute window. With an average of three people living in each home, that is around 30,000 people that could benefit from this program. With a rate of incidence of 1 in 1000, it could be expected that there may be up to 30 people every year living within close proximity to these AEDs who will have a far-greater chance of surviving.

Building Healthier Hearts in the Community

In 2023, Castle Hill RSL Group continued their efforts to raise awareness of heart health, with initiatives like Sweet Heart Day on Valentine's Day, engaging members and staff to contribute directly to HeartKids' fundraising. As they lay the building blocks of a heart-healthy community, one heartbeat at a time, they are inspired by the resilience and unity of their community. Together, they strive towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to lead a heart-healthy life.
